Magnetoelectric Power and Data Transfers to Millimeter-Scale Bioelectronic Implants

Abstract
Millimeter-scale wireless bioelectronic implants promise transformative applications in medicine, health, and scientific research. This talk focuses on an emerging wireless power and data transfer modality, namely magnetoelectrics, to enable miniaturized, safe, reliable, and battery-free bioelectronics. Fundamentals of magnetoelectric wireless power transfer and the latest progress in magnetoelectric-enabled implantable bioelectronic platforms will be covered in the talk.
Biography
Kaiyuan Yang is currently an Assistant Professor of ECE at Rice University, USA. He received his B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 2012, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in 2017. His research interests include digital and mixed-signal circuits for secure and intelligent microsystems, bioelectronics, and hardware security. Dr. Yang is a recipient of the 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award, 2016 IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society Predoctoral Achievement Award, and multiple best paper awards and nominations at top-tier conferences in various fields, including 2022 ACM Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking (MobiCom), 2021 IEEE Custom Integrated Circuit Conference (CICC), 2016 IEEE International Symposium on Security and Privacy (Oakland), and 2015 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), and several best paper nominations. His research has been recognized as the research highlight at Communications of ACM and ACM GetMobile magazines, the cover of Nature Biomedical Engineering journal, and IEEE Top Picks in Hardware and Embedded Security.
